How to train a horse
Major Prather learned Apache horsemanship from legendary Apache medicine singer Phillip Cassadore in 1984.
Dr. Prather is the author of Initiation - My Journey with an Apache Medicine Man, was a Cowboy Mounted Shooting Association national finalist, has trained Pentagon personnel in mounted operations, and acted and ridden in western films.
There is no bit, no bridle and no saddle, so the separation between horse and rider is minimized, the connection maximized. No mechanical contrivances force behavior and compensate for poor riding. Communication is in horse, offering the initiative on his terms, within his nature. The result is an almost unbelievably subtle connectivity of horse with rider.
